I have a section on my home page on reflections I have on Scripture or certain issues. This page is a collection of those short reflections.

Matthew 5:5 (ESV)

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

With pride, men conquer kingdoms and territories. This is man’s way. However, God’s way for man to have dominion on the earth is through meekness. In meekness, Adam and Eve were to subdue the earth and have dominion over all that is in it. This meant that they were to be obedient to God and remain humble in their high creature status. Meekness is the antagonist of pride in every way.

When God was leading his people into the Promised Land, the land in which this people will inherit from God, He was teaching them meekness as well. Forty years in the wilderness was meant for them to stay humble and obedient, trusting in God as His beloved and chosen nation. He chose Moses, the meekest of them all, to lead (Numbers 12:3).

Jesus echos this truth that those who are meek will be blessed. Pride has no place in God’s kingdom. The new heavens and earth will be ruled by meek men and women who are obedient and faithful to God, the Most High King.

Psalm 37:11 (ESV), “But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.”

Colossians 3:12 (ESV), “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience…”

Matthew 5:6,

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

To hunger and thirst is to have an intense, urgent need or craving. Usually when we think about hunger and thirst, we associate it with food and water. In fact, when our bodies are lacking these essential nutrients, the feeling of hunger or thirst drives us to find satisfaction to prevent starvation or parchedness.

In the same way, our hunger and thirst for righteousness will drive us to find true righteousness. God is ready to satisfy our hunger and thirst for righteousness through Jesus Christ. The people of God’s Kingdom will have the LORD as their perfect righteousness.

Matthew 6:33 (ESV),

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Romans 3:21-23 (ESV),

“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…”

1 Corinthians 1:30 (ESV),

“And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption…”

Matthew 5:9 (ESV)

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”

God is the ultimate peacemaker. The peace that He offers through His Son Jesus Christ to sinful Man is beyond this world. The Gospel is indeed the good news that brings peace between sinful man and a holy God. First John 3:1 tells us that this kind of peacemaking, through the manifested love of God in Jesus, transforms sinners into His children. “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 5:9 that those who make peace are the true sons and daughters of God in the Kingdom. Do you have peace with God? Do you bring peace into your relationships?

James 3:18, “And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

Matthew 5:10-12 (ESV)

10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

In Jesus’ teaching on the kingdom of heaven, He lays out clearly what God’s kingdom is all about in the previous verse of Matthew 5. Verses 10-12 are no different. God’s kingdom is concerned most about righteousness. God’s kingdom is not about riches, prosperity, or any personal gain.

In fact, the citizens of God’s kingdom are so very concerned about righteousness that they will be persecuted for it. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake…” Moreover, the citizens of God’s kingdom are living for their King Jesus who is the Righteous One and the righteousness of His people (Isaiah 53:11-12; Acts 3:14; Acts 7:52; Acts 22:14; Romans 5:19). “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account…”

May we never stop pursuing righteousness. May we not grow weary in this dark world to live differently, to live righteously because we belong to God’s kingdom now.

1 John 3:6-8 (ESV)

No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

Jesus is God…Mark 1:1-3

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.[a]

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,[b]

“Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
    who will prepare your way,
the voice of one crying in the wilderness:
    ‘Prepare[c] the way of the Lord,
    make his paths straight,’”

John Mark starts off his gospel book with the testimony of the Scriptures quoting from Isaiah and Malachi. The big idea that John Mark is presenting to his readers here is that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah and King of Israel.

Luke 24:27 (ESV), “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”

Luke 24:44-45 (ESV), “Then He said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,”

Jesus is God… Mark 1:4-8 (ESV)

 John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Here we have the testimony of John the Baptist, a man regarded as a true prophet of Yahweh (Matthew 11:7-9; Matthew 21:25-26). John preached that just as he was immersing repentant people under water for the forgiveness of sins, Jesus will be filling repentant people with the Holy Spirit. Who else is able to direct and fill us with the Holy Spirit but God Himself (Isaiah 40:13)?

Psalm 51:10 (ESV), “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.”

1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV), “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,”

1 Thessalonians 4:8 (ESV), “Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.”

Jesus is God…Mark 1:9-11 (ESV)

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Here Jesus went to John to get baptized. Did this mean that Jesus had sins and was repenting (Mark 1:4)? No. We see in Matthew 3:14-15 that John refused to baptize Jesus because Jesus didn’t need the baptism of repentance as He was sinless. However, Jesus told John, the son of a priest (Luke 1:5, 13), that he must baptize Jesus to fulfill all righteousness. What does this mean? To find out we must go back to the Old Testament.

Jesus started His high priest ministry at the age of thirty years old as high priest (Hebrews 5:5, 10) after He was baptized in water and anointed by the Holy Spirit (Leviticus 8:6, 12; Numbers 4:3). Jesus took over the prophetic office and priestly duty, and the Levitical priesthood ceased with John (Matthew 11:13-14). This is why Jesus sought to be baptized.

Psalm 110:4 (ESV),

The Lord has sworn
    and will not change his mind,
“You are a priest forever
    after the order of Melchizedek.”

Isaiah 40:2-3 (ESV), see Matthew 3:3

Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
    and cry to her
that her warfare is ended,
    that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
    double for all her sins.

A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord;
    make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Isaiah 42:1 (ESV),

Behold my servant, whom I uphold,
    my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
I have put my Spirit upon him;
    he will bring forth justice to the nations.

Zechariah 6:12-13 (ESV),

12 And say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord. 13 It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”’

Hebrews 7:23-25(ESV),

23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

Jesus is God…Mark 1:21-28 (ESV)

21 And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching. 22 And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. 23 And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24 “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” 25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26 And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28 And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.

We see in Mark 1:12-13 that Jesus started His ministry by declaring war in the heavenlies (Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 2:15). How do we know this? Because it was the Spirit of God Himself that drove Him out into the wilderness (Mark 1:12) to meet the devil (Matthew 4:1). It was a spiritual encounter letting the dark spiritual forces know that Jesus was bringing God’s kingdom to the people (Matthew 4:10-11; Mark 1:14-15).

This unclean spirit in Mark 1:21-28 called Jesus the “Holy One of God” (Psalm 71:22; 89:18). This unclean spirit recognized Jesus’ authority and power over all powers (Deuteronomy 32:43; Psalm 91; 97:9; 103:19). “Have you come to destroy us?” The way Jesus was able to rebuke and command unclean spirits left the people amazed saying, “…[the unclean spirits] obey Him.” Jesus demonstrated the authority to bind and permit spirits as only the true Most High God can.

Psalm 103:19 (ESV),

The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
    and his kingdom rules over all.

Matthew 28:18 (ESV),

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

Jesus is God…Mark 2:1-12 (ESV),

And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— 11 “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” 12 And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

The understanding of the Jews during Jesus’ time was that only Yahweh had the authority to forgive someone their sins. Hence, the scribes considered it blaspheme when Jesus pronounced the cripped man forgiven. Furthermore, in the sacrificial system, the priest may declare someone forgiven after atonement was made according to the law of God (Leviticus 4:20, 26, 31, 35). Here, the crippled man was declared forgiven through faith (Mark 2:5).

To further prove His deity, Jesus demonstrated His authority through the healing of the paralytic (Mark 2:10). To the Jews who witnessed this miracle in the context of Jesus’ conversation with the scribes, it was clear that Jesus was declaring exactly Who He was, the LORD Yahweh in the flesh.

2 Chronicles 6:30 (ESV),

…then hear from heaven your dwelling place and forgive and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways, for you, you only, know the hearts of the children of mankind…

Psalm 25:18 (ESV),

Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.

Psalm 103:2-4 (ESV),

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy…

Jesus is God…Mark 2:18-22 (ESV)

18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. And people came and said to him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” 19 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20 The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. 21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.”

Jesus’ answer to the people’s question in this passage points to Old Testament prophetic writings describing God as the bridegroom/husband of Israel. These OT prophetic passages specifically point to the LORD’s promises of future redemption and salvation. There will be tremendous joy and celebration, like a wedding feast, when the LORD comes for His bride, the nation of Israel. He will bring salvation and make His righteousness known among the nations.

Jesus implied to the people that He was, in fact, that bridegroom; hence, his disciples need no fasting like the disciples of the Pharisees and of John the Baptist who were still longing for God’s promises to be fulfilled. On the contrary, his disciples are in celebration while He is with them because He is the promised salvation and righteousness.

When He is taken away temporarily from them, they will fast but not like the fasts of the past. They will fast not in longing for salvation and righteousness but in longing for Jesus’ return to rule the new heaven and earth as King. With Jesus’ arrival, the old covenant was about to end and the new covenant between God and His people was now starting. Praises be to Jesus!

Isaiah 54:4-7 (ESV)

“Fear not, for you will not be ashamed;
    be not confounded, for you will not be disgraced;
for you will forget the shame of your youth,
    and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.
For your Maker is your husband,
    the Lord of hosts is his name;
and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer,
    the God of the whole earth he is called.
For the Lord has called you
    like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit,
like a wife of youth when she is cast off,
    says your God.
For a brief moment I deserted you,
    but with great compassion I will gather you.”

Hosea 2:16-20 (ESV)

16 “And in that day, declares the Lord, you will call me ‘My Husband,’ and no longer will you call me ‘My Baal.’ 17 For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall be remembered by name no more. 18 And I will make for them a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the creeping things of the ground. And I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land, and I will make you lie down in safety. 19 And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. 20 I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the Lord.”

Jesus is God….Mark 2:23-28 (ESV),

23 One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. 24 And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” 25 And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: 26 how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” 27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

The Sabbath was in the Law of Moses as a day of rest, holy unto the LORD (Exodus 20:8-11). To the Jew, the Sabbath was strictly observed as a covenant with God (Exodus 31:16). The unbelieving Pharisees used the Sabbath as a point of contention with Jesus (Mark 2:24; Mark 3:2).

In verse 27, Jesus reminds the Pharisees that God made the Sabbath for man. Then, for Jesus to say to them “the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath” is an extremely strong statement of declaration that He is greater than the Sabbath. Indeed, He is the God who made the Sabbath!

Exodus 16:29 (ESV),

29 See! The Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.”

Colossians 2:16-17 (ESV),

16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.

Having knowledge is like knowing that tomatoes are really fruits because they have seeds and grow from flowers. Having wisdom and insight is like knowing that though tomatoes are fruits they do not belong in a fruit salad.

In the same way, we may know the doctrines of salvation and faith, but wisdom and insight will help us make use of those doctrines in everyday life. Let’s pray not only for the knowledge of Christ but for wisdom and insight in Christ.

Proverbs 2:1-6 (ESV),

My son, if you receive my words
    and treasure up my commandments with you,
making your ear attentive to wisdom
    and inclining your heart to understanding;
yes, if you call out for insight
    and raise your voice for understanding,
if you seek it like silver
    and search for it as for hidden treasures,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
    and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
    from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;

Colossians 1:9-10 (ESV),

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Maybe we’ve made it too difficult, too intimidating, too complicated for God’s people to serve one another using spiritual gifts. I see too many people sitting around waiting to use what they believe are their spiritual gifts when the needs of the church go unnoticed or pushed aside. I see too many people frustrated at church leadership because they feel their self-declared spiritual gifting is not being used to full potential. I see church people too intimidated to use their spiritual gifts because they haven’t yet attended some spiritual gifting school or class. I see believers not do anything in the body of Christ because they just simply believe they have nothing to offer. Quite honestly, what I see is quite sad and heart-breaking.

Paul never mentioned any spiritual gift assessment or personality tests. None of the apostles instructed believers to take classes or be schooled on developing spiritual gifts. Let’s go back to the basics. When we put our faith in Jesus Christ, He redeems us – all of us…our talents, our skills, our understanding of how we ought to live and love one another. Whatever our upbringing, whatever our culture, whatever our worldview…Jesus redeems it all and makes it new, makes it purposeful for His kingdom.

It’s quite simple…every believer has His Holy Spirit. BE part of His body (the church). SEE the needs of the body. DO what you can to help as you pray and depend on the Holy Spirit’s leading. GIVE God all the glory. Look out and look up. What you are doing NOW and the people you serve will affirm your gifting. It’s not about you.

Romans 12:3-5 (ESV),

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

1 Corinthians 12:3-7 (ESV),

Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

1 Peter 4:10-11 (ESV),

10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Death will come for us all. But for disciples of Jesus Christ, we need not be afraid. The tragedies and evil in this world are constant reminders of how much we need Jesus.

John 3:16 (ESV),

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 11:25-26 (ESV),

 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

1 John 5:11 (ESV),

11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

Come, Jesus, come!

One Day at a Time

Take a deep breath and take one day at a time. Take one step at a time. When we are faced with a burden or task so big, we need to slow down. Remember Who God is and pray to Him. Pray for each step. Pray for wisdom. God is with those who humble themselves before Him. The same grace that saved us in Jesus Christ will carry us through our troubles of today to do His will and bring Him glory.

Psalm 119:50 (ESV),

This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.

John 14:1 (ESV),

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (ESV),

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

Jesus redeemed not only our souls into His kingdom, but He redeemed all of us – our pasts, our present, our futures, our trials, our pain. This doesn’t mean that He takes all our sufferings away but that He makes them purposeful and meaningful. We will experience His healing grace and love in our brokenness. He is working it all for our good as we love Him and commit ourselves to Him. My dear sister, Jesus has redeemed all of you for His kingdom.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (ESV),

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Romans 8:28 (ESV),

28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

James 1:2-4 (ESV),

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Gratitude is the condition of a spiritually mature heart. Gratitude grounds us in confessing that all we possess has been given to us by God, our Creator. When we practice gratitude, we practice humbleness because we admit ourselves as the receivers of what we did not previously have.

From the very breath that you and I take this second to the joys and goodness of life, we should be grateful to God. Most important yet, our hearts should be overly grateful for Jesus, our Redeemer, who did for us what we could never do for ourselves. He saved us from our bondage to sin and shame. Jesus gives to us who believe the right to become the true children of God (John 1:12).

When we know the greatness and love of God in light of our weaknesses, we know have all things because we have God in our lives and gratitude will naturally grow in our hearts (Romans 8:31-39). Gratitude is an exercise of faith and the antidote to greed, selfishness, depression, pride, covetousness, and self-pity.

Even though Thanksgiving Day is behind us, may we always practice gratitude for we have much to be thankful for in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Psalm 75:1 (ESV),

We give thanks to you, O God;
    we give thanks, for your name is near.
We recount your wondrous deeds.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV),

18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Hebrews 12:28 (ESV),

28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,

What is the truest sign of the Holy Spirit’s presence? LOVE. Without love, all good works are of the flesh and meaningless. God defines what this love is like. He made visible His love to us in Jesus Christ. And, God makes His definition of love very clear just in case we deceive ourselves in thinking that we love when we really don’t. Pray we have the kind of love that God gives through His Spirit. Where His Spirit is, there His love will be.

John 13:33-35 (ESV),

33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (ESV),

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
